Service Description
Sustained Shared Thinking has been defined by Siraj-Blatchford et al. as “An episode in which two or more individuals ‘work together’ in an intellectual way to solve a problem, clarify a concept, evaluate activities, extend a narrative etc. Both parties must contribute to the thinking and it must develop and extend.” (REPEY, 2002) Sustained shared thinking is strongly associated with high quality teaching and learning for young children. Children who engage in sustained shared conversations are more likely to do well in school and life. This course will help practitioners to: • Develop an awareness of Sustained Shared Thinking in practice. • Consider the different ways children think and the role of the adult in providing a suitable context for thinking • Consider the ways adults interact with children to confirm, sustain and sometimes challenge their thinking The course is due to run 9:30am-11:30am.
