About the event
Tuesday 24th October 2023 11.45am - 4.30pm
Are you noticing more children struggling to learn?
Are you increasingly managing children’s emotional wellbeing before they can even begin to access learning?
Are you spending more time trying to understand the SEMH issues of your children?
If you are experiencing any of these, please do join us at our autumn term conference, unpicking the issues we are increasingly seeing across our Warwickshire settings and schools , and hear our range of professionals discussing what we can do practically and professionally to make the difference that is needed.
Following the success of our spring term Neurodiversity conference, the WEYH is really pleased to announce that we will be hosting a follow on conference in the autumn term. Having listened to compelling feedback about the challenges schools and settings are facing at the moment, we have responded with a focused event Exploring Emotional Barriers to Learning which also examines developmentally appropriate learning. Keynotes and workshops will provide insights and advice on working with parents, observing and understanding what you are seeing as EY practitioners and an exploration of the Neuroscience that sits behind it all.
We are really delighted to be welcoming Ben Kingston-Hughes of Inspired Children again, who will be delivering a vibrant keynote on the Neurology of Emotional Barriers to Learning and looking at what happens in a child's brain when we get learning right. By examining the impact of positive experiences of learning on a growing child's brain, Ben will present a roadmap for learning based on up-to-date neuroscience and a sound grasp of how memory and cognition actually work.
The second keynote from our WEYH Co-Lead and Executive Headteacher Rachel Gillett, will begin by Exploring Emotionally Supportive Approaches. By identifying some of the symptomatic behaviours we see in children who are experiencing emotional barriers to learning, she will explore how we can consider the role of the adult and plan a developmentally appropriate environment that seeks to address these barriers. A case study of this work and its impact will be shared and this will be further explored in a subsequent workshop choice (see Workshop 2).
You will also be able to choose two workshops from the following menu:
1) Observing to Understand (sharing Observation of Play And Learning Principals)- FULL
2) Planning a developmentally appropriate approach - FULL
3) The Neurology of Emotional Barriers - FULL
4) What are we seeing with our 2 Year Olds? (Supporting you to work with parents and carers)
5) Mental Health & Wellbeing
The event is open to all Early Years Practitioners, Childminders and agencies working alongside settings. Having listened to feedback from our last event, we will be putting on additional staff to manage parking and refreshments and also capping numbers. As numbers will be restricted and we are anticipating a big demand for tickets, we would advise booking early. The WEYH team are available to answer any questions should you require any further information.
We look forward to welcoming you again in October 2023!
We currently have an early bird ticket offer of 2 tickets for £60.00, please see below for ticket options. Offer now ended.
